Avatar: The Last Airbender Fanbook Meetup
@ San Diego Comic Con 2011
Thursday, July 21st, 8:30PM
The Lobby Bar at the Marriott Marquis, located in the North Tower
At this year’s San Diego Comic Con, a room full of Avatar fans are going to write, draw, sculpt, perform and generally collaborate on as much fanwork as we can. We’ll take photos, record video, and scan art, posting our progress online as we go. And when we’re done, we’ll put it all together into a gently curated** digital fanbook for everyone to enjoy!
And even if you can’t attend in person, you can absolutely participate!
Here’s how it will work:
On July 21st, from 8:30PM until whenever we run out of energy, a group of artists, writers, cosplayers and other fans will work together to create awesome work inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender.
But coming up with good ideas can be hard! So we’ll all be taking prompts to help inspire us. There will be a bulletin board up on-site, where people can post prompts written on index cards, either signed or anonymous.***
We’ll ALSO be watching @messages on Twitter and our Ask Box on Tumblr, and any prompt sent to us online during the meetup will be posted on the prompt board, too! So no matter where you are, you can submit as many prompts as you like, then watch our updates to see if anyone uses your idea!
WHO IS WELCOME:
- Writers who want to write short fics, or collaborate with artists or other writers
- Artists who want to make comics, illustrations, or any other visual media
- Cosplayers and other performers who want to act out skits
- Casual fans of the show who just want to pop in for a second and maybe do a sketch
- Hardcore fans who want to stay up all night working until they collapse from exhaustion
- Awesome people who want to keep us company or suggest ideas
- Kids with their parents, although be aware that some of the material created may not be kid-friendly
WHO IS NOT WELCOME
- Haters: may proceed to the left
- Jerks: must practice their jerkbending elsewhere
WHAT WE’LL HAVE ON SITE
- Basic art supplies, including pencils and paper
- A flatbed scanner
- Smartphones for taking video and photos and keeping us connected to The Internet
- Prompt board for posting ideas
- Handy nametags, should you desire one
If you can, please help get the word out! And let me know if you have any ideas, or questions, or concerns, or something else I haven’t thought of!
*Do you have an idea for where we should hold our meetup? We’d LOVE TO HEAR IT!
**All work that could be even remotely considered “finished” will be included, unless it contains offensive or hateful material.
***If you submit a prompt with your name attached, you’ll be credited when the work you inspired is posted. And if you choose to submit anonymously, no one will ever know it was your fault. ;)
